8th Grade Algebra
Challenger Middle School
Students need to be able to graph throughout the whole Algebra curriculum, starting with linear equations, moving to inequalities, systems, and quadratics. I would like for the students to be able to look at an equation and be able to visualize the basic graph by the components of the equations. My goal would be to get the kids to make sense of the parts of the equations and how they affect the shape of graphs.
Unit Title - Visualizing Graphing Families
Unit Summary - Students will investigate the components (slope and y-intercepts) of linear equations that create common characteristics of graphs (graphing families). They will create a multi-media lesson that teaches other students how to use these components to be able to quickly visualize what the graph will look like, and create questions about their graphing family to use for a common class assessment.
